Avoid a Fall or Fly Again: Turning Points of State Fragility
نویسندگان
چکیده
High persistence of state fragility (a trap) suggests the presence substantial benefits from avoiding a fall into and considerable hurdles to successful exit fragility. This paper empirically examines factors that affect turning points entering exiting by employing three different approaches: an event study, synthetic control method, logit model. We find economic contraction is critical prevent country on brink falling (e.g., among near fragile countries, probability would rise 40 percentage should real GDP per capita growth decline +2.5 percent -2.5 percent). Also, strengthening government effectiveness together with increasing political inclusion maintaining robust activity help make more sustainable. In current environment (the COVID-19 crisis its aftermath), findings suggest importance providing well-directed fiscal stimulus sufficient financing, (subject appropriate governance safeguards well-designed policies), protecting socio-economic spending keep vulnerable countries away being caught in trap.

Background: Hot compresses on the right upper abdomen are used as support for patients with liver diseases in Germany. The study was designed to determine, whether they affect hepatic blood flow. Methods: Single dose kinetics of indocyanine green (ICG) were studied in 13 healthy subjects with or without hot compresses on the right upper abdomen over 40 minutes. The time interval between the inv...
متن کاملPredicting Turning Points
This paper presents a new method for predicting turning points. The paper formally defines a turning point; develops a probit model for estimating the probability of a turning point; and then examines both the in-sample and out-of-sample forecasting performance of the model. The model performs better than some other methods for predicting turning points. *While working on this paper, all three ...
متن کاملA Classifying Procedure for Signaling Turning Points
A Hidden Markov Model (HMM) is used to classify an out of sample observation vector into either of two regimes. This leads to a procedure for making probability forecasts for changes of regimes in a time series, i.e. for turning points. Instead of maximizing a likelihood, the model is estimated with respect to known past regimes. This makes it possible to perform feature extraction and estimati...
متن کاملThe fall of the Soviet Union: The fall of a state or the fall of an ideology
During the last century or so, two dominant doctrines i.e. Capitalism and Socialism had been in a state of constant confrontation resulting in engaging the two Super powers, the United States and the Soviet Union in wars such as the Vietnam War and the Cold War. The Cold War that continued for several decades finally led to the disintegration of the Soviet Union. This article was an attempt to ...
